Stone Quarries as Architectural Landscapes
Design strategies for post-extraction regeneration in the Three Countries Park
The research addresses the role of stone quarries in design strategies for post-extraction territorial regeneration, particularly in cross-border contexts.
Adopting a design-driven approach, it explores the spatial, cultural and ecological links woven by and for stone quarrying between the above- and underground landscapes as a continuum.
The research analyses the case study of the Three Countries Park in the Euregio-Meuse-Rhine (BE-DE-NL), where, despite strongly fragmented land use, stone quarries extend underground across national borders according to a geological continuity.
